A first...

My first blog post as an official Washington Nationals Fan Blogger is up:

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/grounds-crew/2008/04/a_view_from_the_cheap_seats.html

Its kinda lame but... who am I kidding?

I love it.  Enjoy.

And I promise... I'll be better.

Pictures of You...

I am remembering looking at these pictures of you.

I remember running to you to be near.

I remember wishing I had the right words to say.

Then, only then, I wouldn't be breaking apart these pictures of you.

-My Short Ode to The Cure.

I wrote about it in facebook but...

It has come to my attention that a new yet semi-controversial word has entered mainstream consciousness as of late via the medium of recorded music from the urban community.  Allow me to present to you with how this discussion was brought about, as well as some of my thoughts concerning the aforementioned matter at hand.

Random Friend:  Yo JB, how's it hangin'?

JB:  Its slouchin' bra.  Whats crack-a-lakin' fool?

Random Friend:  Aw, nuttin playa just marinatin'.  Yo straight'en me out on sumthin'.

JB:  Kool and the gang wit it.

Random Friend:  Yo... what it mean when a dude says he funna "Superman dat ho?"

JB:  (Quickly referring Urbandictionary.com) Hold up playa...

A significant pause due to the lag caused by the fact that I was concurrently streaming the latest Britney Video from TMZ.com along with Taylor Swift's piece de resistance "Tear drops from my Guitar" (which by the way I hear is an ode to Tim McGraw - How JUICY!)...

JB:  OH SNAP!   It ain't even right dawg.  Ain't even right!  I can't even s'plain it so here ya go.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=superman

(After a lengthy pause to digest and ponder the merits of this definition)

Random Friend:  Man... I do this every other night homeboy.  I thought it was sumthin' new.

JB:  (In utter shock and embarrrassment) .....

Now the moral of this story is, I should not cohort with such unsavory characters in a social setting, especially, over the medium known as instant messaging which has been popularized over the past decade by technology companies such as AOL, Gmail and Yahoo.  But a secondary lesson I gleaned from this experience has led me to this conclusion:  Times have surely changed.

Just as surely as the sun will rise, and the stars shine (unless you live in Southern California) change will come.  Like it or not.  For better or for worse.

On a side note:  I highly encourage all the good citizens of the Washington D.C. - Metropolitan area to vote in their primaries today.  Being a person who values his privacy, and guards it viligently mind you, I am not stumping for any one particular candidate.  But please, do consider the virtuals of participating in the electoral process and exercise expressing your voice through the channel of voting.

Until Next Time - Whenever that is,

JB

Recap...

Friday:  Had lunch with a friend who made me put together her furniture and help fix up the house.  Then out to the city to meet up with some people.  I know many of you will not believe me but its a good thing that a couple of us will always remember what happened.

I hung out with this guy for a good 90 minutes or so.  He was a jerk to the girls (which is expected) but I had a good conversation with him concerning watches, cigars, his early years and a certain mutual friend (Mungmung!!!).  He wouldn't let the girls take any pictures, for reasons which were lame but kinda legit.  And after talking to him for a good 30 minutes, I realized without music, he would be a huge nerd with no life.

John Mayer.  I only got to chill with this guy because he worshipped a certain Stevie Ray Vaughn growing up and this guy...

Doyle Bramhall II, grew up with Stevie Ray and they were playing at the same guitar festival.  Doyle's a cool dude btw.  He hooked us up with VIP tickets to the show where the two previous pictures were taken.

Saturday:  Other's who performed at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL for Crossroads Guitar Festival 2007, in no particular order:

Derek Trucks and Eric Clapton.  Derek, along with John Mayer and John Frusciante were recently crowned as the "New Guitar Gods" by rollingstone magazine.  Not sure how valid it is but it sure means something.

Good ol'e Willie Nelson, hitting the road again.

Headlined by Eric Clapton, shown here with Steve Winwood.

Sheryl Crow.  I guess she's cool with Eric nowadays.  After their little "association" in the past.

B.B. King.  Shown here with Lucille.  What a class act.  The term "living legend" is thrown around pretty lightly nowadays, but he is the real deal.

Jeff Beck with Tal Wilkenfeld.  I had never heard of Jeff Beck before but it turns out he is a true Guitar God in his own right.  His sound was the most unique that I heard all day.  And Tal's a kickass bassist.  She's 22 by the way, and has only been playing the bass for like 4-5 years.  Amazing talent, though a certain girl next to me couldn't stand her hair (wink, wink).

And one more of the man himself.  May you live long my friend.  Also, did you guys know he resides in Columbus, Ohio?  How weird is that?  I guess his latest wife is from there so thats where he calls home.  Strange.  How very strange.

And who could forget, the Guest Announcer/MC of the festival.  Mr. Bill Murray.

He was hilarious.  A great sport and truly shameless when it comes to doing whatever he has to do for a laugh.

Personal Highlight:  1) Jeff Beck.   You just have to listen to his stuff, I'm not sure how well it translates onto the listening without actually seeing him perform but he has the most unique sound I've heard from a guitarist in a long time.  2)  Seeing the legends of course:  Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter,  BB King, Robert Cray and Steve Winwood.   3)  Chillin' with the Musicians themselves.  I so want to be a rock star.  Dang it!!!

Until Next Time,

JB

<Edit>
So because I'm such a celebrity-whore and a certain girl's charm, I am going to chill with some random people tonight who are "industry" people.  Its too bad I don't have musical ability because I would try to make something of it.  Should be lots of fun.

And VIP, backstage passes to the Crossroads Guitar Festival.

I am excited to say the least.
<End Edit>

Weekend in NYC....

Okay I haven't put up anything real about myself lately so here we go.

First and foremost, congrats to Chol and Ellen on their wedding.  They are living it up in Greece for another week or so but seeing Chol's life long wish come true was nothing short of pure joy, as in I was drunk all weekend.  More pictures from the wedding will surface in the near future but for now I will leave you with this.

Angela is officially my dance partner at wedding receptions.  The funny thing is, she won't even pretend to know me until she's had at least six drinks.  Which is not unusual for me of course.  And just in case you were wondering, yes that is my tie on my head.

Myself (damn I look like a fatty), Anglea, Chee, Pete, and Dan before we got hammered.

Personal Update:

Lately, everyone who calls/txts/email/im's me starts off by asking, "Dude, where are you now?"   Which is totally reasonable because I have been all over the last year or so.  As of August 12th-ish, I will be back in DC.  For how long?  Who knows.  But I am planning on staying put for a while, until the winter rolls around then I'll be traveling again for a couple months.

I know all you DC people are married, engaged or getting serious but can we kick it please?  Holler!!!

Random...

Shout out to mungmungdog, Magoo22, and Thepaulkim for letting me crash.  Love you guys.

Sightings this past weekend:

Eric Clapton.  July 23rd, Monday - 1:34pm, La Guardia Airport Gate D5.  He was on my PLANE!!!  I felt like a little school girl I swear you not.  I have had a lot of celebrity sightings but I was seriously in awe of this cat.

The dude next to Eric is Doyle Bramhall II, he is Eric's regular guitar/vocals guy.  Though he's got some solo stuff out there too.  Cool dude, ran into at Baggage Claim number 7 at O'Hare after I landed.

As I'm waiting for my bags, this dude is standing right next to me.  Mr. Shawn Marion.  I would put up the picture I took of him and Arden but someone hasn't forward me the picture yet.  (Edit:  Good Girl A.)

Rob Brown of Find Forrester, Coach Carter and Step Up I think.  Ran into at Tonic in New York, he's really a down to earth dude.  Which really means he's not a star yet so he's down to meeting people who actually recognize him.  When I first met him, I was like, "Yo man, I can't help it but I just want to call you Jamal Wallace!"
Again, would put up picture I took with him, if a certain muscle man would just man up and email it to me. (Fullfilled!)

Oh yeah and ran into little Rudy, she's not so little no more if you get my drift, at Time Square on Sunday.  I would have talked to her more than just saying hello but she was with some seriously swollen dudes who looked very serious.

All in all, a good weekend and its time to get some rest.  I'm still exhausted.

Until Next Time,

JB
